Akakus Oil Operations has issued a prequalification call for waste management services covering its Sharara field operations and the Zawiya tank farm, under tender reference BC-2025-HSE-03. The submission deadline is 15 May 2025, and the company is inviting all specialised and technically capable firms to participate in the prequalification process.
Sharara is one of Libya's largest producing oil fields, and the Zawiya tank farm serves as a key coastal export and storage facility. Waste management services at sites of this scale typically encompass hazardous and non-hazardous waste collection, treatment, transport, and disposal in line with HSE regulatory requirements. Akakus Oil Operations — jointly managed by Repsol, Total, OMV, and Equinor alongside the National Oil Corporation — requires participating companies to demonstrate adequate technical and financial resources as part of the prequalification documentation.
The tender is at prequalification stage, meaning no contract has been awarded and no commercial terms have been disclosed. Companies that pass prequalification will subsequently be invited to submit formal bids. The instrument here is an open prequalification call — not a block award, not a signed contract — and should be treated accordingly in any business development strategy.
For Norwegian and international service companies, the Sharara-Zawiya scope represents a tangible entry point into Akakus Oil Operations' HSE supply chain. Libya's upstream sector has faced prolonged instability, but Akakus has continued operational activity at Sharara, making this a live commercial opportunity rather than a speculative one. Companies with documented experience in oilfield waste management across MENA or sub-Saharan African environments will be best positioned to meet the prequalification criteria. Firms should note that Libyan tender processes can extend beyond published deadlines, and early engagement with the Akakus tender committee is advisable to clarify documentation requirements and local content expectations.
